Our grape varietes

Babic

Traditionally grown in the terraced vineyards of Primosten, Babic boasts a rich history dating back to ancient times. It holds the promise of producing exceptional wines characterized by a unique and intricate terroir. The stone walls weaving through the steep Bucavac appellation, cascading towards the clear Adriatic Sea, create a mesmerizing “stone lace” embracing the vines. These picturesque vineyards represent true labor of love. Hailing from Croatia’s Dalmatia region, Babic grapes are renowned for their small, thick-skinned berries, thriving in the region’s distinct terroir. Native to the area, Babic yields a wine celebrated for its richness and complexity. With aromas of red fruits and subtle earthy undertones, it offers a delightful palate of dark fruits and Mediterranean herbs. Its balanced acidity and manageable tannins make for a refreshing finish. Babic pairs beautifully with Dalmatian cuisine, making it a favorite among wine enthusiasts worldwide. Its recent international acclaim and limited production have solidified its status as a sought-after collector’s item, captivating the interest of connoisseurs and investors alike.

Marastina

Marastina, widely cultivated throughout the Mediterranean and along most of the Croatian coast, goes by various names such as Rukatac, Krizol, Visana, and Malvasia del Chianti. Although not indigenous to Croatia, it thrives in the region’s favorable conditions and shares genetic similarities with other varieties. With vineyards predominantly found in southern regions like Hvar, Korcula, the Peljesac peninsula, and the Konavle region, Marastina grapes ripen late, offering high sugar content in sun-drenched locations. Its distinctively fragrant and fruity characteristics, with apricot and peach notes, produce a golden-yellow wine with a full-bodied texture and hints of vanilla. Enjoyed slightly chilled, Marastina pairs seamlessly with seafood, salted anchovies, various risottos, and goat cheese. Renowned for dessert straw wines like prosek, Marastina wines are crafted by winemakers across Croatia under names like Rukatac and Marastina, each offering unique expressions of this versatile grape variety.

Shiraz

Shiraz, a globally recognized black grape variety, also referred to as Syrah in Old World regions, notably thrives in France’s Northern Rhône. The Barossa Valley in South Australia boasts some of the world’s oldest Shiraz vines, celebrated for producing high-quality wines characterized by rich, concentrated dark fruit flavors, oak nuances, and heightened alcohol content. Similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz grapes feature small, thick-skinned berries, imparting deep purple hues and sturdy tannins to the wines. Typically full-bodied with moderate acidity, Shiraz wines offer a complex palate, ranging from intense black fruit to nuanced hints of leather and tobacco. The distinction between Old World and New World Shiraz/Syrah extends beyond nomenclature, showcasing stylistic variations; while Syrah tends towards earthy profiles, Shiraz leans towards fruit-driven characteristics. In regions like South Africa and Chile, winemakers may opt for the name Syrah over Shiraz, resulting in wines with distinct expressions compared to those from Old World climates. Shiraz pairs exceptionally well with hearty dishes like steak, roast beef, smoked brisket, and aged cheeses, thanks to its depth and weight. Notably, Australian Shiraz complements BBQ fare, enhancing the enjoyment of grilled meats with its robust flavors.
